A number of planning applications have been submitted to the Forest of Dean District Council, including proposals affecting listed buildings, conservation areas and plans for a new self‑build home on the edge of Hartpury.

One application relates to Newent Town Hall, a prominent Grade II listed building in the centre of the town. Listed Building Consent (reference P0487/26/LBC) has been sought for the careful removal of the existing external timber staircase and its replacement with a new oak staircase. The replacement has been designed to match the existing structure, with the aim of preserving the building’s historic appearance. The town hall stands in Market Square within the Newent Conservation Area and is a key local landmark.

Another Listed Building Consent application (P0405/26/LBC) concerns Spring Cottage on Blaisdon Lane, Blaisdon, near Longhope. The proposals cover internal and external repair works to both the cottage and its garage following subsidence. Works would include localised structural repairs, along with patching and finishing works, to stabilise the building while maintaining its traditional character. The property lies within a conservation area and is considered to have heritage significance.

A separate application has been submitted for land to the east of Pears Cottage on Corsend Road, Hartpury. The full planning application (P0390/26/FUL) seeks permission for the erection of a single self‑build dwelling, together with associated parking, landscaping and other related works. The application states that the proposed development does not appear to accord with the development plan currently in force for the area, meaning it may be subject to closer scrutiny by planning officers and councillors before a decision is made.

All of the applications can be inspected electronically at the council offices in High Street, Coleford, during normal office hours. Details are also available on the Forest of Dean District Council website using the relevant planning reference numbers.

Residents and other interested parties are being invited to comment on any of the proposals. Representations must be made in writing to the council’s Development Manager no later than May 27, 2026. Any comments submitted will be made available for public inspection on the council’s website.

Final decisions on the applications will be taken following consultation and assessment against local and national planning policies.
