A series of road closures affecting communities across the Forest of Dean have been announced by Gloucestershire County Council.

The most significant closure will affect the B4234 in Lydbrook, where a 1.25-kilometre section between the A4136 junction and Church Road near Mireystock Cross Roads is due to close from Monday, October 19 until Friday, October 23.

The closure is required to allow drainage and manhole works to be carried out. Signed diversion routes will be in place, while pedestrian and emergency access will be maintained.

A separate closure and traffic restriction will be in force on Mountjoys Lane and Mountjoys Lane End in Cinderford from Monday, October 19 until Wednesday, October 21. The affected stretch runs from High Street to outside The Hollies and is needed to facilitate cable installation works. During the project, no waiting, stopping, loading or unloading will be permitted within the restricted area.

Further works are scheduled later in the month on Sterry’s Lane in Gorsley and Kilcot. The road will be closed and subject to restrictions between 8am and 5pm on Friday, October 30 while a lighting pole is replaced near Brookfields Farm. As with the other schemes, emergency and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Several additional closures are planned for early November. Laundry Lane in Newland is expected to close from Monday, November 2 until Friday, November 6 for National Grid works. The affected section extends for around 500 metres between Pear Tree Cottage and Rose Cottage.

During the same week, Old Road in Coleford will be closed from Monday, November 2 until Friday, November 6 to enable the laying of a new gas pipe. Meanwhile, Bailey Lane in Hewelsfield and Brockweir will be shut and subject to parking and loading restrictions from Monday, November 2 until Wednesday, November 4 for drainage works.

In a separate announcement, the county council has published an order proposing changes to a public footpath at Close Turf Farm in St Briavels. If confirmed, part of Public Footpath FSB23 would be extinguished and replaced with a newly created route measuring approximately 414 metres and with a width of 2.5 metres.

Copies of the order and associated maps are available for inspection at Shire Hall in Gloucester and Forest of Dean District Council offices in Coleford. Anyone wishing to submit representations or objections has until Wednesday, November 11 to do so.

For all highway schemes, Gloucestershire County Council said signed diversion routes would be provided where necessary and emergency access would continue throughout the works.
