Drivers across the Forest of Dean are being warned of a series of temporary road closures and traffic restrictions as Gloucestershire County Council prepares for utility, drainage and highway improvement works over the coming months.

The measures affect roads in Westbury-on-Severn, Tidenham, Lydbrook, Cinderford and Bream, with closures scheduled from early October through to the end of December.

One of the first closures will affect Stantway Lane in Westbury-on-Severn. The road will be shut between Gatwick Cottage and Stantway Cottage, covering approximately 240 metres, from Thursday, October 1 at 8am until Friday, October 2 at 6pm. The closure is required to allow Severn Trent Water to carry out works.

In Tidenham, part of the B4228 Coleford Road will be closed from its junction with Boughspring Lane to outside Rookwood on Sunday, October 4 between 8am and 5pm. The works are being carried out on behalf of Network Plus.

A longer closure is planned for the B4234 between Church Road and Mireystock Cross Roads in Lydbrook. The section between the A4136 and Church Road, stretching approximately 1.25 kilometres, is expected to be closed from Monday, October 19 until Friday, October 23 to enable drainage and manhole works to be completed.

Also beginning on Monday, October 19, Mountjoys Lane and Mountjoys Lane End in Cinderford will be subject to both a temporary closure and restrictions preventing waiting, stopping, loading and unloading. The restrictions will remain in place until Wednesday, October 21 while cable installation works are undertaken.

The largest scheme will involve a rolling programme of carriageway resurfacing across numerous roads in Cinderford, Bream and Lydbrook. The programme is due to begin on Wednesday, October 21 and is expected to continue until Thursday, December 31.

Restrictions will operate at various times, with approved signage on site indicating when individual road closures and traffic controls are in force.

Among the roads affected are Station Street, Wesley Road, Littledean Hill Road, Causeway Road, Dockham Road and Highview Road in Cinderford, as well as sections of the B4231 through Bream and the B4234 in Lydbrook.

Gloucestershire County Council said pedestrian access to premises and emergency access would be maintained throughout the works. Diversion routes will be signed on site where required.
