Drivers across the Forest of Dean are being warned to expect disruption over the coming weeks as Gloucestershire County Council rolls out a series of temporary road closures for drainage, broadband and maintenance works.

A number of routes across the district will be shut at various times between May and early June, affecting motorists in Awre, Tidenham, Cinderford, West Dean and surrounding areas.

One of the earliest closures will affect part of the C25 in Awre parish, between its junction with Branches Road and the A48. The stretch, running from the A48 to outside the Wellness Retreat for around 479 metres, is set to be closed from May 18 until May 22 to allow drainage works to be carried out. During this period, no stopping, waiting or loading will be permitted along the route.

At the same time, Boughspring Lane in Tidenham will be shut for three days to enable the installation of broadband and telecommunications services. The closure will run from 8am on May 18 until 4.45pm on May 21, affecting a 200-metre stretch between properties known as The Reddings and Galleons Reach.

Further disruption is expected in Cinderford, where part of Woodgate Road will close between May 20 and May 21 while fibre broadband ducting is installed. The works will affect a short section outside numbers 1 to 11.

Into June, Marsh Lane in West Dean parish is scheduled to close from June 1 to June 5 for sewer repair works aimed at preventing pollution. The closure will cover a 215-metre stretch between Oakdale and Damson Cottage.

Also on June 1, Park Hill Road in Woolaston will be shut outside Upper Edge Farm to allow telecommunications work to take place, while Collafield in Littledean has already been earmarked for a one-day closure for pole renewal works.

In all cases, Gloucestershire County Council has said signed diversion routes will be in place, with pedestrian and emergency access maintained where possible. Residents are advised that while the closures are expected to be short-term, orders can remain in force for up to 18 months if works are delayed.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys while the improvements are carried out.
