CINDERFORD director of rugby Nic Corrigan has said his side need to move on quickly from their 27-17 defeat at Hartpury College.

The Foresters fought galiantly after a poor start to come back to 10-10 just after half-time, having conceded a sloppy try in the opening minutes of the game.

But Corrigan felt the momentum swung back in Hartpury’s favour after full-back Gareth Thompson kicked a penalty to make it 13-10 and added that he and the club’s staff need to ‘coach out the Englishness from the players’.

“What I mean by that is we want to play and expansive and direct form of rugby,” he said.

“The way we started was unacceptable.

“It was an incredibly frustrating day for us. Our line-out and defensive show was unacceptable.

“If we are going to go to places like Hartpury we’ve got to think again about our mistakes.

“Hartpury are a very complete team and our errors cost us.

“We had the same amount of time in their 22 as they did in ours but we didn’t take our chances. They were ruthless.

“We did well to bring it back to 10-10 but then at 13-10 it swung back their way and we didn’t play for 80 minutes.”

Corrigan addressed Cinderford’s disappointing start to the season, having won just one game from six ahead of Richmond’s visit to Dockham Road on Saturday.

“We’ve lost three games by 19 points and I don’t think you can take heart from a loss,” he added.

“We’ve got to be aware there’s a growing frustration within our fan base.

“After any loss there has to be a grieving period but I think that’s done now.

“We’ve got another opportunity against Richmond on Saturday and I don’t want us to overreact.

We’re not going to dwell on the loss.

“What we need now is leadership from myself and from the club captain Mike Wilcox. That’s going to be crucial.”
