CINDERFORD will make the long trip east to Suffolk on Saturday with every intention of returning home as National Two South champions.

The Foresters were denied an early party after their 41-24 home win over Taunton as second-placed Chinnor, having been behind against Bury St Edmunds for 79 minutes, scored a late try to win 28-27.

The maths say Cinderford probably need just two points to secure the title as they are eight points clear of Chinnor and have a superior points difference of 234.

But director of rugby Paul Morris says his side are using the opportunity to win the league at Bury this weekend as motivation.

“The points equation is what it is but we don’t want to deal in that,” he said.

“We simply want to win the game and with it the title.

“No team has ever won this league with more than 130 points and we have 133 already and are still not champions.

“That says a lot about how good Chinnor have been. They would be worthy champions and right from pre-season every other team knew if they finished above them then they would have had a very good season.

“For weeks we’ve been chalking off victories, 22 in a row now, and now we need just one from our last two games.

“We want to do it this week and we crave that feeling that comes with achieving something special.

“We have been very grounded and have never got ahead of ourselves but the moment is here where just one more win will do it.

“We are going to embrace that and it is hugely motivating to all concerned.

“Last week Taunton pushed us very hard.

“They played really well and exposed us at times. We have learnt a lot from the game; things that we have to put right and improve on before we play Bury.

“However, yet again the resilience, ability and character of our players shone through. At times our play was spectacular.

“We don’t want to limp the title and want to show in Suffolk why we are the best in this league.”
