Forest of Dean District Council is inviting residents to help shape the district’s long‑term future as it consults on its revised Local Plan, a statutory blueprint guiding development over the next 15–20 years. The plan sets out how land will be used for housing, employment, infrastructure and environmental protection, while also supporting climate adaptation and safeguarding the district’s natural and historic assets.
The consultation is now under way and runs until March 18, 2026, with the council encouraging views from residents, businesses and community groups. Suggestions for alternative development sites are also being welcomed as part of the process.
Copies of the Revised Draft Local Plan are available online, at the Council Offices in Coleford, and at local libraries.
A series of public exhibitions will allow residents to discuss proposals directly with the Local Plan team. Upcoming sessions include:
- 18 February – Cinderford Town Council Offices
- 23 February – Newent Community Pavilion
- 25 February – Sedbury and Beachley Village Hall
- 28 February – Huntley Village Hall
- 2 March – Redmarley Village Hall
- 4 March – Coleford District Council Offices
Comments must be submitted by 18 March 2026 via the online consultation portal, email ([email protected]), or by writing to the council’s Local Plan Team in Coleford.
Forest of Dean planning applications
A series of new planning applications has been submitted to Forest of Dean District Council, covering listed buildings, conservation areas and proposals that depart from the current development plan.
At New Rock House on Kempley Road, Dymock, an application seeks consent to repaint a fireplace mantel and internal brickwork. Meanwhile, at Scar Farm, Hawcross, Redmarley, a listed building bid proposes installing underfloor heating throughout most rooms, complemented by heritage‑style radiators where needed.
A more complex proposal at Court Farm, Westbury‑on‑Severn , requests variation of two previously approved conditions to alter the design and retain two existing buildings for ongoing agricultural use. The council notes that the scheme does not appear to align with the area’s development plan, prompting closer scrutiny.
In Coleford, an application within a conservation area seeks to convert offices at 8 High Street into a single dwelling.
All applications can be viewed online or at the council offices in Coleford. Residents have until March 4, 2026 to submit comments, which will be publicly available.
