Motorists across the Forest of Dean face a hectic month of closures and diversions as Gloucestershire County Council rolls out a packed programme of essential maintenance, utility upgrades and infrastructure works. A series of official notices lays out disruption stretching from Awre and Aylburton to Drybrook, Mitcheldean and Coleford.

The first schemes are already under way. The C25 at Awre—between Branches Road and Moorhen Lane—closed on Monday for ditching works and remains shut until today, Wednesday, with stopping and waiting prohibited while crews complete the 200‑metre project. Pedestrians have been escorted safely through the site.

Also expected to finish today is the closure on the C8 near Upper Old Bargains Wood, where a 20‑metre stretch outside the reservoir has been shut while fencing repairs take place. That section is scheduled to reopen by early evening.

Next up, Mitcheldean’s Walwyn Close will close from 9am tomorrow (Thursday) through Friday afternoon for infrastructure works, affecting a short 15‑metre run outside No. 6. Meanwhile, Friday also brings a one‑day shutdown on The Ruffit at Littledean, where Gigaclear is carrying out digging works. Stopping, waiting and loading will be banned while crews operate.

From mid‑month onward, the timetable ramps up. Sandford Road in Aylburton will shut 25–27 February for Severn Trent Water operations. Ruardean Road (C29) is set for a one‑day closure on 23 February to allow the installation of a new streetlight column, while Hawthorns Road in Drybrook will be blocked off 23–24 February for National Grid works. All three schemes will maintain pedestrian and emergency access.

One of the longest disruptions arrives 23 February–6 March, when C25 Awre Road closes for major drainage works. Unlike other schemes, pedestrian access will not be allowed due to deep excavations. Emergency services will still be able to reach properties.

In Coleford, Union Road is scheduled to close on 26 February for excavation and pole installation. The order includes a contingency allowing the restriction to remain in force for up to 18 months if unexpected delays occur.

Beyond the highways programme, the council has also issued a fresh public notice confirming revised plans for the proposed expansion of Pitts Mill Sewage Treatment Works in Corse, with comments invited until 25 February.

Residents are urged to check diversion signage and plan ahead as February’s busy roster of works continues to unfold across the district.
