Drivers across the Forest of Dean face a patchwork of delays this February as Gloucestershire County Council announces a fresh round of temporary road closures for maintenance, utilities work and essential upgrades. The works, which span multiple parishes, will see several well‑used local routes shut for anything from a few hours to more than a week.
The first disruption lands on February 9-10, when a 200‑metre stretch of the C25 at Awre closes for ditching works near The Ledge Court. Motorists will also find C8 at Aylburton shut over the same two days for fence repairs at the reservoir site. No stopping or waiting will be permitted during either project, though pedestrians will be escorted through where safe.
Later in the month, the diary gets even busier. Sandford Road at Aylburton will close from February 25-27 for Severn Trent Water works, while Ruardean Road in Drybrook is set for a one‑day shutdown on February 23 to allow the installation of a new streetlight column. National Grid will also take over Hawthorns Road, Drybrook, closing it from February 23-24 for utility works.
Meanwhile, in Coleford, Union Road is scheduled for a single‑day closure on February 26, though the legal order could remain in force for up to 18 months if weather or technical delays push the works back. The road will close from ‘Coombe Cottage’ to ‘Fir Tree Cottage’ - a distance of approximately 250 metres.
Motorists are advised to follow signed diversions, allow extra time for journeys and check the Gloucestershire Highways website for updates. Emergency access will be maintained at all sites, with pedestrian routes provided where safe to do so.
