FOREST of Dean MP Matt Bishop visited Gloucestershire Army Cadet Force in Cinderford last week to meet volunteers and young people taking part in the organisation’s activities.
The Labour MP spoke to cadets about their experiences and the skills they were developing through their involvement with the local detachment.
During the visit, he met CSM Phil Evans, SSI Ash Skerten, WO2 Elaine Locke, SI Ruby Robertson and SI Gary Mason, who help support the cadets and deliver activities.
Mr Bishop praised the opportunities available to young people through the Army Cadet Force, particularly its focus on developing confidence, learning practical skills and encouraging participants to tackle new challenges.
The visit also gave the MP an opportunity to hear directly from those involved about their experiences and the work being carried out in Cinderford.
Writing on social media afterwards, Mr Bishop said: “It was brilliant to visit the Gloucestershire Army Cadet Force (ACF) in Cinderford last week.”
He added: “It was also great to speak with the young cadets and see first-hand what they are learning and the skills they are developing.”
The Army Cadet Force is a national youth organisation which offers activities designed to develop teamwork, leadership and resilience alongside opportunities for outdoor adventure and personal development.
Mr Bishop said the Cinderford group was providing valuable opportunities for young people and highlighted the commitment of those responsible for supporting its activities.
He said: “It’s fantastic to see such valuable work taking place locally, giving young people the opportunity to build their confidence, learn new skills and take on new challenges.”
The MP also thanked the cadets and adult volunteers for welcoming him and taking the time to discuss their work.
He said it had been encouraging to see the commitment of the team and the positive opportunities being offered to young people locally.
