A 48-year-old Yorkley man who admitted assaulting a nurse and breaching a non-molestation order by going to a woman’s home has been sentenced to a 12-week suspended jail term.

David Greenway, of Danby Road, Yorkley, pleaded guilty at Cheltenham Magistrates’ court to assaulting the nurse by beating him on 25th May 2024.

He also admitted that between 7-15 April 2024 he breached a non-molestation order by going to a Coleford address from which he was banned.

The magistrates sentenced him to six weeks imprisonment for each offence, to run consecutively, and ordered him to pay £100 compensation to the nurse.

He must also attend for up to ten rehabilitation activity days. In addition, the court imposed a two-year restraining order requiring him not to contact a woman by any means, or go to any address where she is living or staying.

The court said the breach of the non-molestation order was deliberate and unacceptable behaviour, which scared the victim and was a contempt of court.

“The effect this had on the victim was heard from her victim personal statement”, said the court.

Regarding the assault offence, the magistrates said: “The nurse was trying to help you and a dim view is taken of this behaviour. You grabbed their neck, which is very dangerous and a high level of harm.”
