TWO time winner Nik Elsmore says he definitely won't be competing in this year's Wyedean Rally.

Elsmore says he has given up driving for a new role in the sport – mentoring up-and-coming star James Grint in his quest for the top.

James is the younger brother of Harry Potter film star Rupert Grint.

Nik said: "I've had a few offers to do the Wyedean but I'm not interested. It was the only event I did in both 2010 and 2011 so it would hard to be competitive.

"I don't want to do it in a lesser car, finish just inside the top 15 and have people think I've lost my ability.

"I've done the Wyedean since 1996 but you cannot hold on to the past."

Elsmore still owns an Evo 9 car, but it's up for sale and he does not envisage having it much longer.

He says his role with the Grint family provides him with a new kind of rallying buzz.

He said: "They're a car fanatic family. Rupert gets involved, but he understands that he's a well known actor across the world and he's going to get recognised and stopped for autographs and photos.

"When he's at a rally he makes sure it's James in the limelight. He supports his brother."
