CINDERFORD Town have announced the return of former manager Stephen Cleal, who has re-joined the club as assistant to Matt Driscoll.

Cleal is well known at the Causeway after taking charge of the Foresters for the 2020 to 2021 season. He joined the club in July 2020 following a long and successful spell as first team manager at Bishops Cleeve, where he spent six years in charge.

His time at Cinderford came to an end after a 5-2 home defeat to Winchester City in Southern League Division One South, with the club accepting his resignation soon after.

Now Cleal returns to the Forest following a highly successful period with Malvern Town. He left the Hillsiders in the spring and brings with him the achievements that marked one of the strongest campaigns in Malvern’s history.

Working alongside co-manager Lee Hooper, Cleal helped guide Malvern to the Southern League Division One South play off final last season.

Their fourth place finish was the highest league position the club had ever achieved and they also set a new club record of 75 points over the course of the campaign.

Cinderford Town said they are pleased to welcome him back into their managing staff, confirming that Cleal will work as an assistant to Driscoll.

His experience across the Southern League and Hellenic League levels and his familiarity with the club are expected to support the Foresters as they continue their work on and off the pitch.

Cleal’s reputation in local football remains strong and his return marks a notable appointment for the Causeway side.

Supporters also welcomed the news online, with many praising Cleal’s return to local football.

The club has thanked supporters for their backing and will issue further updates as preparations continue with Cleal now part of the coaching setup once again.
