Cinderford Town 3

Evesham United 2

TOP scorer Scott Wilson scored Cinderford's winner two minutes from time in this Tuesday night clash at The Causeway.

The home side played in fits and starts and there were spells when they struggled to keep the ball.

They started promisingly enough and took the lead in the ninth minute when Wilson laid the ball off for Lewis Sommers to drive into the net from just inside the box.

Sommers had a fine match and troubled the Evesham defence in the air and on the floor.

It should have been 2-0 when Matt Barnes dispossessed his opposing full-back and whipped a ball into the box. Wilson's shot struck the keeper.

At the other end, Evesham were denied by a goal-saving Warren Archer block.

The visitors came out strongly for the second half and dominated proceedings.

The equaliser came from a free-kick on the edge of Town's box, which Stuart Fitter expertly placed beyond keeper Alex Harris – playing his first game since his recent return from Caerleon. Harris's evening got worse eight minutes later when Fitter spotted him wandering off his line and thumped the ball past him from 35-yards for Evesham's second goal.

Cinderford found themselves under the cosh but they gradually regained their composure.

Dave Bird had a header from a corner cleared off the line and Lee Smith – who rarely saw the ball down the left flank – flighted a shot over the bar.

It was right-back Alex Evans who headed Town's 67th minute equaliser, surprising everyone by popping up in the centre of the box unmarked to convert a cross from the right.

Town finished strongly, boosted by the introduction of Dean Lee and Andy Lewis, and in the dying stages Wilson raced on to a through-ball, drew the keeper and slipped the ball past him with just enough pace to cross the line.
