Senior Combination Cup Final

Berry Hill 10

Cinderford United 24

CINDERFORD United maintained their grip on the Senior Cup, overcoming a determined challenge from Berry Hill on their own Lakers Road pitch.

With a strong breeze at their backs Berry Hill began well and deservedly took the lead when winger Kingsley Bower sped over in the corner for a try, which was well converted by Aaron Ryder.

Cinderford captain Danny Trigg replied with a penalty, but evergreen Berry Hill outside-half Lee Osborne dropped a goal to make it 10-3 to the home side after 20 minutes play.

Trigg was on target with his second penalty, then Cinderford scored a crucial try just before half-time.

Flanker Richard Mountford showed a good turn of speed from just inside the opposition's half to outpace the cover defence and get the touchdown.

With conditions in their favour, Cinderford United controlled much of the second half. After a long period of pressure, winger Jack Wakefield was sent clear to score a try that Trigg converted.

Struggling to get out of their own half, Berry Hill became increasingly frustrated.

Trigg punished them for their indiscretions at the breakdown by landing two more penalties to kick start the Cinderford party.
