THE Forest Hills A team entertained Ross on Friday evening in a game that had to be rearranged from its original date in late April due to the incessant rainfall of late, writes Geoff Norris.

There were a few new faces in the team available to new Captain Dan Maller.

In the opener, Kyran Martin and Dan Mason, had to go to the 18th, before conceding one down.

In the next match Lee Ayres and Lee Hanson were two up going into the 15th but also lost one down.

The next two matches were won by the home team with a comfortable 4 & 3 victory for Luke Martin and Conor Burris while Captain Maller and Scott Ayres shook hands on the 17th as they won 3 & 1. 

Matt McGirr and James Prior lost 3 & 1and t he overall result, rested on the outcome of the last match.

Paul ‘Sty’ Williams and Josh Goode managed a 3 & 2 win for Forest Hills 3-3 Ross.

The Saturday Stableford encouraged 57 golfers to venture out.

The winner of Division One was Ashley James with 41 points, two points ahead of Chris Lee with David Gardiner third on 38.

Robin Revill finished top of Division Two with 37 points. Mark Tyler was second on 36 and Ashley Drew a further shot back, on 35.

There were 12 twos, with Josh Goode registered two, one on the eighth and another on the 17th.

Saturday afternoon’s North Gloucestershire Foursome League fixture saw B Team Vice Captain Mark Graham lead his troops to play Gloucester.

In the opener, Mark had to endure the embarrassment of his initial shot ending up still on the tee box, finishing behind his right foot.

Things improved later on for Mark and partner Kevin Reddan as they managed to scrap their way to a 2 & 1 victory.

This was as good as it got for the Foresters, as the next four matches resulted in  a tale of woe for the Mile End crew.

Firstly, Josh Mathews and Alan Edwards lost 4 & 2, before Connor Mullan and Dave Bennett lost two down.

Steve Goode and Steve Jones shook hands on the 14th as they lost 6 & 5, before Fraser Freeman-Jones and Martin Weller lost the penultimate match 4 & 3.

In the last match Derek Freeman-Jones and Luke Jobson managed to win 3 & 1, to leave the final scoreline of Gloucester 4-2 Forest Hills.

The Sunday competition, was the Norris Decanter Pairs Combined Stableford, that attracted 34 pairs.

The winners were Luke Brown and Charley Mason, with a three under par 75.

The early clubhouse leaders, Club Captain Alan Edwards and the I.P.C. Ashley James, just held onto second place on countback from Ryan Dawson and Joe Wilcox, as they both finished on 73. Mark Pankhurst and Josh Mathews were fourth with 72.

There were three twos, all on the 17th hole, and were claimed by Eddy Annis, Steve Hammond and Rob Smith.
