CORSE & Staunton retained top spot in the Gloucestershire Cricket League with a derby win at Redmarley.
The home side made an encouraging start when Corse’s captain, Tim Dannett, was caught by Kevin Trouw off Craig Stow with the fifth ball of the innings.
Corse recovered with 62 from Matt Cox and useful contributions from the middle order to post a target of 233.
Stow struck again in the fifth over when he tempted Ed Goolden to hit a high shot which was caught by Sam Mattingley for 15-2.
The visitors suffered a further blow when Te Shawn Zyun Alleyne was bowled by Paul Newbery with the third ball of the eighth over with the score on 33.
Cox and Jack Hutchings then put on 96 for the fourth wicket before Hutchings was caught for 44 by Mattingley off Andrew Green.
Having hit 10 off the previous two balls in the 26th over, Hutchings went for another big shot but was caught just inside the boundary off the fourth delivery.
Cox was the next wicket to fall, going to a catch by Paul Newbery off the bowling of Ollie Norman for 146-5
His 62 off 81 balls included 11 fours and a six.
Harry Tegg hit three sixes and two fours in 31 from 23 balls.
He became Norman’s second wicket going to a catch by Charlie Ayland for 173-6 with the third ball of the 33rd over after having hit a six with the previous delivery.
Stow claimed his third wicket when he caught Jack Tyrer leg before for eight as the 200 came up.
Matt Brown had hit three fours when he was bowled by Mattingley to make it 221-8
Stuart Tame made 27 before he was caught by Trouw with the fifth ball of the 44th over.
Stow closed the innings when he bowled Tristan Maree with the score on 232.
The Corse bowlers also made early headway with Tegg bowling Ronnie Newbery in the second over.
Tegg made it two when bowled Trouw for 11 in the sixth.
Dannett took the catch off the bowling of Alleyne to end Stow’s knock of 26 for 60-3.
Three balls later in the middle of the 17th, O Aston became the fourth to go when he was caught lbw by Ed Goolden.
Craig Ayland – who went on to be his side’s top scorer with 53 – and Green then put on 45 for the fifth wicket.
Green was bowled by Callum King with the first ball of the 26th over and he was quickly followed by another two wickets.
Mattingley was caught by Cox off Brown with the first ball of the 29th and Paul Newbery was caught by King with the fifth for 109-7.
Norman was caught by Alleyne off the bowling of Brown for 117-8 and 10 runs had been added when K Slatter was caught by King, again after a delivery by Brown.
Ayland was finally dismissed with the first ball of the 37th over when he was caught by Cox off the bowling of Tyrer.
He had faced 100 deliveries and his score included five fours.
The Redmarley innings closed at 136 all out with the best part of 10 over remaining.
On Saturday (June 7) Corse welcome Cheltenham Civil Service for a top two encounter.
