NEWENT Town continued their impressive Hellenic Division One campaign with a dominant 4 0 away victory over Clanfield 85 at Radcot Road on Saturday, strengthening their grip on the final play off place.

The Dafts were quick out of the blocks and looked composed from the opening exchanges, controlling possession and probing for openings against a Clanfield side keen to make home advantage count.

The breakthrough arrived after 32 minutes when Dylan Hart finished confidently to put Newent ahead, rewarding a bright spell of attacking pressure.

That goal settled the visitors and they went into the interval deservedly leading 1 0, having limited Clanfield to few clear cut chances while looking dangerous on the counter.

Newent stepped things up after the break and doubled their advantage 10 minutes into the second half. Sam Judge found space in the box and made no mistake with his finish to give the Dafts a two goal cushion and further control of the contest.

With 10 minutes remaining, Newent were firmly on top and made their dominance count with two late goals. Ben Harbourne added a third on 85 minutes to effectively seal the points, before George Brand struck in the final minute to complete a convincing scoreline and cap a polished away display.

The result marked a significant milestone for the club, as Newent reached their highest points total since promotion to Hellenic Division One. With just over a third of the season remaining, the Dafts sit fifth in the table on 38 points, the final play off position, and four points clear of Redditch in sixth.

The achievement is a major credit to joint managers Luke Handley and Zaq Hussain, who are enjoying an outstanding first season in management and have guided Newent into genuine contention at the sharp end of the table.
