Lydney 17
Brixham 17
A TRY from Charlie Daniel earned Lydney a 17-17 home draw with Brixham in atrocious conditions.
After just two warm-up games, and with a brand new set of players, it's hard to gauge the current strength of this Lydney squad.
Much more will be known after this Saturday's opening National Two South encounter with Barking at Regentsholme (3pm).
Heavy rain made conditions very tough for the players, but both sides tried to play some adventurous rugby in the first half.
Brixham, who play a league below Lydney, drew first blood when flanker Dylan Flashman went over.
The hosts hit back with a try from full-back Tony Wicks, who ran onto a kick-through. Wicks added the conversion himself.
Only a forward pass denied Chris Holder, but it was the visitors who grabbed the next score with a pushover try from Adam Thomas.
With both sides making numerous changes and the ground getting ever slicker underfoot, the second half became scrappier.
However, Lydney finished the match the stronger.
Flashman's second try of the afternoon, this time converted by Edwards, extended Brixham's lead, but Lydney struck back forcefully with tries from new boys Pete Butcher and Daniel.
