Lydney Town 2
Carterton 6
LYDNEY Town's recent dismal run continued with this 6-2 mauling at home to Carterton.
It followed their midweek 4-0 defeat at home to Brimscombe & Thrupp.
Lydney once again gifted the visitors an early goal when Brownhill headed home inside three minutes after a defensive mix-up.
Lydney settled and should have equalised, but Bailey Hoare didn't get enough power on his effort and keeper Hedges hacked it off the line. The same player shot inches wide moments later before Jarred Liddington spooned a great chance over the bar from six-yards.
Brownhill's superb free-kick rattled the Lydney crossbar just before half-time.
Carterton scored three times in a crazy opening eight minutes of the second half.
Duerdon was left with a free run on goal and he lifted his effort over Beckett. A minute later, Lydney's attempted clearance inside their six-yard box cannoned back off Seacole and flew into the net. Duerdon smashed home a fourth following some comic defending that left him with space and time.
Steve Jones and Mark Lee replaced Liddington and Price and for a while Lydney played with a better shape, though rarely threatening the Carterton goal.
However, the lively Brownhill knocked in his second and Carterton's fifth when Lydney once again failed to close him down.
Seacole added a sixth a few minutes later.
Town did manage to give their followers something to cheer on a freezing cold day when Jonny Kear played a nice one-two with Steve Jones and smashed a shot into the top corner from 20-yards.
Bailey Hoare, Lydney's best player on the day, was rewarded with a goal on 90 minutes. He tucked away a penalty after a push in the box.
This Saturday, Lydney make the long trek to Headington in the Supplementary Cup.
