Wimborne Town 1
Cinderford Town 3
DESPITE being ravaged by injuries and suspensions, Cinderford Town got their season back on track by beating a decent Wimborne side.
Boss Steve Peters believes this week's announcement that the club was looking to move into a new £2.2 stadium in partnership with the E-Act Academy provided the players with a major lift.
"It was good for the club to announce something positive and exciting – the Forest is crying out for it," said Peters.
Lee Smith, Dan Harrison, Andy Lewis and Dean Lee were all out for the Wimborne game, but Lewis Sommers returned to lead the attack.
Danny Haines came in on the left, with Warren Archer moving to centre-half.
Ashley Malcolm started at right-back but Dave Bird had to drop deeper to replace him when Malcolm got injured.
Tom Betts, a young goalkeeper from Hartpury College, came in for the suspended Ben John.
Betts was previously on Brighton's books and has played for England Schoolboys. Dale Evans was also suspended, but club captain Geraint Bater started, despite two broken ribs.
The pre-match omens were not good for Cinderford as the players did not arrive until 2.40pm for a scheduled 3pm kick-off, following a 4½hour coach journey.
Peters made his own way to the ground and found himself there on his own.
Cinderford dominated the first half and the lively Scott Wilson scored in the 20th minute after racing through the Wimborne back line.
Sommers also forced a fine stop from Ackerman as Cinderford looked sharp up front and solid at the back.
Matt Kemble equalised for the hosts in the 68th minute, but Warren Archer restored Cinderford's lead six minutes later.
Wilson made the points safe with a breakaway goal in stoppage time.
Steve Peters said: "Having Lewis Sommers back gave us extra options up front and allowed Scott to be better.
"The players worked their socks off and I thought bringing Danny Haines in on the left gave us more shape and experience.
"I told Dave Bird and Geraint Bater, two of our big guns, that I wanted more from them.
"I threw down the gauntlet and they both responded."
