DRYBROOK teenager Piers Gilliver has been selected to represent England at the 2013 Sainsbury's School Games in Sheffield.
The 18-year-old Gloucestershire College student is to compete in wheelchair fencing during the games in September and is delighted to be a part of the competition.
"I was incredibly inspired by London 2012 and I knew when I was watching the Olympics and Paralympics I wanted to emulate the athletes I was watching and this is the next step of that journey for me," he said.
"Obviously my main goal is to do the best that I can in the competition.
"The Sainsbury's School Games is such a great event to be part of and so I aim to enjoy every minute of it as this year will be my last as a competitor."
Piers even drew the praise and congratulations of David Beckham, who works as an ambassador for Sainsbury's Active Kids initiative.
"Piers should be incredibly proud of being selected to compete in the Sainsbury's 2013 School Games," he said.
"To be given the chance to compete in a multi-sport event and experience a major sporting occasion like this is a huge opportunity for these young people.
"I wish everyone the best of luck and encourage them to enjoy every minute."
