CINDERFORD backs coach Brad Davies says players and supporters should not be downbeat, despite an opening day loss at home to Rosslyn Park.

Davies, who was unable to play because of an arm injury, said: "It was a 50:50 game that could have gone either way – we're disappointed to lose, but not disappointed with the performance.

"They (Rosslyn Park) starved us of ball for a lot of the game. They are a very physical side who were a lot bigger than us and a lot longer in the tooth. They'd done their homework on us and had us watched.

"However, I thought we defended superbly and showed a good work rate and attitude. It came down to one mistake and for a lot of our new guys it was a good lesson – that's all it can take to lose at this level."
