Cinderford lost outin a 13-try National Two West thriller on their first-ever visit to the Chester’s Hare Lane ground.
Full-back Sam Earl-Jones missed an early penalty attempt for the home side before Cinderford hooker Nathan Taylor scored two tries from driving mauls in the space of five minutes to give the visitors a 0-10 lead after 13 minutes.
The home team responded with a try a couple of minutes later from Louis Beer, before Taylor completed his hat-trick after 27 minutes of play.
Back came the hosts with a try from Jared Williams, which Earl-Jones converted, but soon afterwards the No8 was shown a red card for a dangerous tackle.
The visitors stretched their lead when centre Hugo Murray scored another unconverted try, but right on the half-time whistle Beer grabbed his second try, which Earl-Jones converted to make it 19-20 at the interval.
Beer soon completed his ‘hat-trick’ as the second half got under way and then Harrison Vare scored his team’s fifth try, both of which were converted by Earl-Jones, who also landed a penalty for a 36-20 lead after an hour’s play.
Cinderford hit back with a try from winger Sam Smith, which Sonny Greenman converted.
He then added a penalty as the visitors decided not to go for the corner.
Straight from the re-start Chester scored again through Ben Ivory and then Vare went over for his second, with Earl-Jones again converting.
Cinderford scored their sixth try through replacement Reilly Scriven, which Greenman converted and the game ended 46-37
Cinderford United defeated Old Patesians 45-26 in a highly entertaining Counties Two Gloucestershire match.
Jed Soper scored twice and there was one each for Conn Mundie, Ethan Hopkins, Jonny Holliday and Callum Thompson along with a penalty try.
Matt Tinker kicked four conversions.
