AFTER defeating Hereford side Westfields 2-1 away at Allpay Park on Tuesday, March 17, Cinderford Town returned to the Causeway for the second half of their double header, facing the same opponents in a Hellenic League Premier Division tie, where the Foresters once again secured all three points with another 2-1 victory.
The match began with early pressure from Cinderford. In the 19th minute, a scramble in the Westfields box saw the home side almost take the lead, but Ryan Smallwood in goal produced a fine save to keep the visitors in the game.
Cinderford eventually broke the deadlock in the 35th minute. A lapse in defending from Westfields allowed Harry Leeson to slot the ball home
That goal proved enough to see Cinderford head into the break 1-0 up, with the team looking comfortable and composed in possession.
The second half saw a number of substitutions as Cinderford looked to maintain their advantage and refresh their legs. Charlie Caple replaced Blaine Waugh, while Tino Shumba came on for Ryan Hillier shortly after the hour mark.
Later, Joe Keeping replaced goal scorer Leeson in the 78th minute, keeping fresh legs on the pitch and maintaining the attacking threat.
Westfields pressed for an equaliser and were eventually rewarded in the 84th minute. A well-taken free kick from Brandon Jennings found the net, bringing the scores level at 1-1 and setting up a tense finale.
Cinderford’s response was swift. Just three minutes later, a long clearance caught the Westfields defence off guard, and Jack Watts pounced on a mistake from George Clarke to fire home, restoring the lead to 2-1.
Despite Westfields’ late efforts, Cinderford held on to claim all three points, with goals from Leeson and Watts proving decisive in a closely fought contest. The result leaves Cinderford
