PAUL Morris says he felt ’privileged’ to be a part of Cinderford RFC after agreeing to extend his term as director of rugby.

Morris will return to Dockham Road in 2018-19 having signed on for two seasons last March.

The club’s former player development manager, Morris took on the top job at the National Two South club on a temporary basis in November 2015 following the departure of Nic Corrigan.

“When I came into the job it was only going to be until Christmas,” Morris said.

“Then it was until the end of that season and then this year so they seem to like what I’m doing.

“I think I’ve grown into the role with very, very talented support staff and I’m very happy to continue to the next two years.”

Morris oversaw rapid development in the club’s United XV before creating a change in culture at Cinderford that saw them lose just once in their last 12 games before Saturday’s loss at Chinnor.

Working together with coaches Adam Balding, Clive Stuart-Smith and Andrew Stanley, Morris has overseen a resurgence in the club’s fortunes after an early season spate of injuries to senior players posed problems.

And while Morris says he may retire from coaching at the end of his new agreement – although added ’never say never’ to that caveat - he insists he will always remain a big supporter of the club.

“It’s a good club to be part of and I’m very happy and feel very privileged to be here.

“We’re still an ambitious club but we’re working Saturday to Saturday. Previous regimes have said ’let’s finish in the top six’ but we haven’t looked at how that would happen. We just want to go out and win every Saturday.

“It’s a club I want to work for and want to support. Even when I’m done I will still be a Cinderford rugby club supporter for the rest of my life.

“I feel wanted and I have an emotional tie to the club. There are a lot of good people here.”
