DRYBROOK team manager Chris Rawlings said his side played some of the best rugby he’s ever seen at the Mannings in their record 113-7 win over Bideford.

But Rawlings, who is also the club’s chairman, believes his side will need to be at their very best to pick up a win in their latest South West One West fixture at Bridgwater & Albion this Saturday.

Drybrook have never won at Bridgwater but Rawlings believes the Squirrels are the team to beat in the league following four consecutive wins.

“We played really well against Bideford,” he said.

“It was exceptional rugby and some of the best I’ve ever seen.

“We could have scored more but I can’t see that happening this week. We’re a good team at the moment but we’ve never won there.

“We’ve had players sent off and decisions gone against us so we’ve never had the rub of the green there.

“We’re going to have to play really well to come home from there with a win.”

Rawlings oversaw a training session on Tuesday night that included the players, led by captain and hat-trick try scorer Ben Large, doing press-ups for every point scored in their biggest win in the club’s 125 year history.

“They did not enjoy it!” Rawlings added.

“We spoke about it on Saturday as the game was going on.

“I said to the boys on the sideline that they should be doing press ups for every point we score.

“It was to do with when Australia had that record thumping against England and every time they scored, they did press-ups.

“The trouble is we got the idea from after we’d scored 50 points but at training the boys decided to actually do it!

“It just brings them back to earth a little because we’re under no illusion that Saturday’s going to be a tough game.”
