BREAM head coach Dave Emery admits his side are preparing for life in Gloucestershire One following a 50-5 loss at home to Andy Deacon’s Cirencester.
But Emery believes his young team can emulate the likes of Newent if they stick together and has targeted a place back in Gloucestershire Premier within two years.
“We didn’t start well on Saturday,” Emery said.
“We conceded two tries in the first few minutes and at 12-0 down I was worried it could have been a 100-pointer.
“We were 20 points down at half-time and I said to the lads we just need to cut out the mistakes.
“We got on top of the scrum in the second half and we had 70 per cent territory and shaded it on possession.
“So the scores haven’t reflected the performances a lot of the time this season.
“We’re a young team; a lot of them are just 17 years old and only started playing rugby at 15.
“We lost a lot of players at the end of last season and a few left after the first few losses which was disappointing. There’s no commitment now from younger players.
“But they players are training hard on Thursdays and it’s been an experience for them.
“Mathematically we can’t stay up so hopefully next year the boys can play some rugby and get some points together.
“The difference between the two leagues is massive. We were steamrolling sides with the same team as the one we struggled to get wins with.
“I think it’ll be too soon to come back up next year but I think we can do it the year after.”
The only score in the defeat on Saturday came at the hands of 17-year-old open-side flanker Noah Hall, whose try came as a consolation for Emery’s side.
