CERI Large and her England teammates were left disappointed after an 11-0 loss in France on Saturday.

The Drybrook-raised centre started in Martigues but despite plenty of opportunities, England were unable to turn their efforts into points with handling errors proving costly.

Fly-half Audrey Abadie put the hosts up by six with a pair of penalties before half-time.

Elodie Poublan completed the scoring on 55 minutes with the game’s only try.

England huffed and puffed but could not find a way to break through the French defensive line in the final exchanges, despite the French going down to 13.

England had the numbers to capitalise but excellent cover defence from the home side kept them on the wrong side of the whitewash, with the final whistle sounding.
