CHRIS Thomas says he's got pal Jamie Roberts to thanks for turning him into a rugby referee!

The pair were playing for Drybrook in a 10-a-side tournament at Chepstow, when, according to Chris, Jamie handed him the mother of all hospital passes - that wiped him out and ended his playing career on the spot.

Chris suffered a dislocated shoulder and broken collarbone.

Giving up rugby was tough for the goal-kicking hooker, who had captained Drybrook and also represented Gloucester Colts and Cinderford.

After going 'stir crazy' for six weeks, he began refereeing junior games.
