Swindon Supermarine 2

Cinderford Town 1

LEE Smith missed his third penalty in a row as injury-hit Cinderford lost in Swindon.

Smith – who had two penalties saved in the game against Cirencester – is unlikely to get another chance from the spot.

Manager Steve Peters said: "We might need to rethink who takes them but at least Lee had the confidence to step up.

"In all honesty we didn't play well and we didn't pass the ball well. I can assure you, I do not tell the players to get the ball and lump it forward to two small lads up front."

It took a late 87th minute strike from Ashley Edenborough to sink Steve Peters's side.

Edenborough also missed a first half spot-kick, ballooning his effort over the bar.

Cinderford started well and the lively Scott Wilson netted his seventh goal of the season on 25 minutes.

Supermarine's equaliser came 11 minutes into the second half.

Josh Parsons stroked a free-kick from the edge of the box past Lewis Pierre after Edenborough had been fouled.

Edenborough had a headed goal disallowed and also missed another gilt-edged chance.

His late winner came when Pierre fumbled a Smith cross.

Peters said: "We were three minutes from getting a point that we did not deserve.

"What's worrying for me is that one week we're good, the next we're OK, then we're rubbish.

"On Saturday I thought we were missing some legs, it was a massive pitch and it didn't suit us.

"Unless we find some consistency we're heading for mid-table and I'm not Mr Average.

"I'm not travelling to Cinderford for the sake of it, I want to achieve something.

"Either I do something well or not at all."

Cinderford Town: Lewis Pierre, Matt Barnes, Alex Evans, Greg Lewis, Danny Haines, Dale Evans, Dave Bird, Geraint Bater (capt), Dean Lee, Scott Wilson, Lee Smith, Subs: Matt Smith, Sam O'Sullivan, Warren Archer, Dan Harrison, Ashley Malcolm.

Red Insure Cup

First Round

Cinderford Town 5

Bishop's Cleeve 1

BOLSTERED by Bath City loan signing Brad Norris, Cinderford easily dismissed Bishop's Cleeve 5-1 in Tuesday night's Red Insure Cup tie at The Causeway.

Unlike Saturday's performance at Swindon Supermarine, Town got the ball down and played some good stuff on the floor. The only disappointment was that there were just 47 paying fans to see it.

Despite missing a string of regulars, Cinderford looked to have a good shape about them.

Alex Evans partnered Greg Lewis in the centre of defence, with Matt Barnes and Danny Haines in the full-back positions. Club captain Geraint Bater was missing, but Dale Evans came in and showed his quality in midfield, alongside Dave Bird and Lee Smith. However, it was the front pairing of Norris and Sam O'Sullivan who really caught the eye.

Norris broke the deadlock on 28 minutes to give Town the half-time lead.

Another Norris effort and a Dean Lee strike within five minutes of the restart virtually settled the tie.

Cinderford played some sparkling football during the second half and Lee Smith made it 4-0 on 51 minutes.

Man of the match Norris completed his hat-trick with Town's fifth goal, six minutes later, although Mike Tambling pulled one back for shell-shocked Cleeve in the 75th minute.
