MORE than 500 people turned up at Steam Mills on Sunday to watch a team of Tottenham Hotspur Legends defeat Rank Outsiders Veterans 11-1.

Raising funds for the Great Oaks Hospice, the game was played in 32 degree heat.

Spurs brought a strong side to The Mill, including the likes of 1990s stalwart David Howells and ex-England international Andy Sinton.

Ranks rocked Spurs with an early goal, thanks to a deft finish from boyhood Spurs fan Andy Coleman, who chipped the ball past a helpless Gareth Howells.

The celebrations were short-lived as Gloucester man Shane Bradley equalised almost immediately.

The visitors began to turn on the style and Garry Brooke put them ahead with a sumptuous valley from 20-yards.

Bradley then added a third for Spurs with a tap in from close range.

Ranks looked to catch Spur out on the counter and only a stunning save from Gareth Howells denied another Spurs fan, Phil Anderson.

Following a water break after 30 minutes, Spurs raced into an 8-1 lead with goals from Darren Caskey, Warren Gravette, Mickey Southern and the excellent Andy Sinton (2).

The second half was considerably quieter - the heat beginning to tell as the game's pace slowed.
