REDMARLEY claimed their third win this season in Division One of the Gloucestershire County League with a narrow victory over fellow strugglers Rockhampton.

The difference between the two sides at Playley Green was just 17 runs.

Redmarley elected to bat with openers Ronnie Newbery and James Holland getting off to a steady start.

Holland was the first wicket to fall when he was caught for six with the score on 27.

Newbery responded with three straight fours in the next over.

The opener and Kevin Trouw put on 35 for second wicket before both went in quick succession.

Newbery was bowled with the second ball of the 16th over for 62/2 with his 36 included seven fours.

Three had been added to the total when Trouw was caught leg before for nine.

Ayland was caught and bowled for five and 80/4.

He was followed by skipper Andrew Green who was caught on one and 83/5.

Oliver Aston became the sixth wicket to fall when he was also caught for one with the score on 89.

Stow and Richard Henry led the recovery as they added 47 with Henry playing a supporting role to top scorer Stow.

Henry went for seven with Redmarley on 136/7.

Stow was joined in the middle by Jack Bartlett who added a quick-fire 34 as the home side moved onto 204.

Stow went leg before having scored 72 including seven fours and three sixes.

Bartlett went to the penultimate delivery of the innings with the score on 214.

His 34 came off 30 balls and included a four and three sixes.

The visitors started strongly and the first wicket did not fall until midway through the 22nd over.

Jack Bartlett took a catch off the bowling of Sam Mattingley to make it 68/1.

Mattingley struck again in the 28th as Andrew Green took a catch for 93/2.

The third wicket also went to a catch, Trouw getting under the ball off the bowling of Stow.

The visitors needed 97 off 12.5 overs with seven wickets in hand.

Stow then ran out Mikey Chandler after delivering the final ball of the 35th for 133/4.

Richard Henry then claimed two wickets in the 39th over.

Trouw took a catch off the first ball of the over to make it 151/5.

It became 154/6 when Stow took a catch off the final delivery.

Rockhampton were being kept behind the required run rate and the next wicket fell midway through the 41st, Ollie Norman taking the catch off Norman for 162/6.

Rockhampton took 16 runs off the 42nd before Stow claimed two wickets in the next.

He bowled Sam Long with the third ball of the over while Charlie Groves went the same way with the final delivery.

Only three runs had come off the over leaving Rockhampton looking for 35 off the last three overs.

Bartlett limited the visitors to three runs off the penultimate and while they managed 14 off the final set of deliveries, that left them 17 runs short.

Redmarley remain bottom of Division One, five behind Lydney and 12 off Rockhampton in eighth.
