LYDNEY racer Sam Mott (10) climbed up through the grid to finish 13th in the Kartmasters GP at Newark at the weekend.

Poor heats including a visit to the ambulance in one heat meant starting 29th in the pre-final on Sunday but he worked his way forward to start the final in 22nd place for the Zip Factory Team.

In an extremely competitive final he worked his way through many of the best racers in the country to cross the line in 13th overall in only his first year in karting.

Kartmasters is a one off race every year where over 300 racers compete to win the GP plate and is one of the biggest meetings in the world with many previous winners on the current Formula one grid.

Having been invited to drive for the Zip Factory team earlier in the year he is also competing in the British Kart Championship and the Ultimate Karting Championship.
