A RUN rate of nearly seven an over proved too much for strugglers Rockhampton in a game reduced to 30 overs at Lydney’s Bob Park Cricket Ground.

The win means Lydney are undefeated after nine games and are 32 points clear at the top of Division Two of the Gloucestershire County League, effectively giving them a game in hand over second-placed Redmarley.

The home side had 70 on the board when the opening partnership of James Bishop and Jonathan Kear was broken up when Bishop was caught for 36.

Kear was also caught, for 43, when the score had moved onto 97.

But the partnership between Dafydd Nicholas and Alex Gooding saw the score double.

Nicholas went to a catch for 42 off 35 balls which included four boundaries with the score now 194-3.

Alex Antoine came in as the innings moved towards its conclusion of 201-3.

Gooding finished on 62 off 35 balls with nine fours.

Antoine and Gooding both finished with two wickets – Antoine picking up an lbw and catching a return while Gooding had two wickets bowled.

Niall Holford also took a catch off his own bowling and Ed Jones picked up an lbw while James Bishop and Corey Notley Barnard took catches and Dafydd Nicholas completed a run out.

The win also did a favour for Cinderford who are in the relegation zone with Rockhampton.

Cinderford’s home game against Shurdington was cancelled.
