COUNTY League Division Two leader Lydney beat their nearest rivals for the second week on the trot.

They beat second-placed Redmarley, repeating the feat they performed the previous week at Langford.

Lydney won the toss and elected to bat with Tom Legge the highest scorer on 53.

Significant contributions from Alex Gooding, Alex Nelmes and Dafydd Nicholas helped the visitors set a target of 203.

The pick of the Redmarley bowlers was Paul Newbery who finished his seven overs with 5-29.

The leaders got off to a bumpy start, losing opener Jordan Stone for a duck to the bowling of Ben Gwilliam.

Legge, Nicholas and Gooding put them back on course for a useful total, scoring 120 between them.

Legge was bowled by Andrew Green, Nicholas was caught by Newbery for 27 off the bowling of Sam Mattingley while Gooding was caught leg before by Mattingley.

Alex Antoine was Green’s second wicket, bowling him for a second but Alex Nelmes added another sizeable contribution.

He went for 30, caught by Craig Stow off Newbery.

Niall Holford was the only other Lydney player to reach double figures,

He was caught by Ben Gwilliam off Newbery for 13.

Ed Jones and Ellis Boughton were both bowled by Newbery with Jack O’Connell and Callum Miller at the crease when the innings closed.

Alex Antoine and Jordan Stone each took three wickets each as Redmarley were halted nearly 50 runs short of the target.

Opener Sam Aston was the high scorer with 33 with Craig Stow the only other batsman to score more than 20 runs.

Dafydd Nicholas caught both Newbery, who went for 11, and Aston off the bowling of Antoine.

Ed Jones bowled Charlie Ayland for six and Antoine took the catch off the bowling of Stone to dismiss Stow.

Antoine saw off James Holland for one catching the batsman lbw and Ben Gwilliam went for the same score, bowled by Callum Miller.

Stone was responsible for dismissing the last two Redmarley wickets to go.

He bowled Jack Bartlett for 16 and Andrew Green was caught by Nelmes for eight.

The not out batsmen were Newbery and Mattingley.

The 19-point win puts Lydney 47 points ahead of Langford.

They move back into second place after a six-wicket win over Newent in fourth.

Redmarley are now third but just two points outside the promotion zone with four games of the season remaining.
