LYDNEY (pictured) won the Bath Veterans' hockey tournament last weekend.

Lydney started slowly with a 0-0 draw against Bath Buccaneers. Goalkeeper Chris Broadhurst made some fantastic saves.

After two hours of rest they beat Rugby 1-0 with a goal from Steve Hetenyi.

The final group game was against Bridgend. Lydney dominated the match, but conceded late in the contest for a 1-1 draw. Martin Saunders scored Lydney's goal.

That result put them joint second in the group, along with Bridgend.

A penalty shoot-out decided who would progress and keeper Chris Broadhurst was again the hero with a tremendous sudden death save.

In their semi-final with Bristol & West, Lydney went 1-0 down.

Kevin Broadhurst chased a high ball and crossed for the evergreen Steve Hetenyi to score his second goal of the tournament.

Lydney's superior fitness told and they grabbed a second goal through Martin Richards to go into the final against Cirencester.

In a hard fought game Lydney proved to be the better team.

They won 1-0 with a short-corner strike from Kevin Broadhurst.
