Division One West

Lydney Town 4

New College Swindon 0

CONDITIONS were atrocious for this Easter Monday match.

Heavy rain fell throughout and pools of water formed on the pitch.

Lydney ran out comprehensive winners to stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches, going back to mid-February.

Only Tytherington Rocks have better recent form in the division.

An early defensive slip almost proved costly but keeper Richard Thomas made a good save.

Lydney's Jarred Liddington had a shot blocked by Swindon keeper Alex Swatridge, while Adam Price's 35th minute header was kept out on the line.

A young and lively New College outfit caused the Lydney defence some problems and in the 50th minute Richard Thomas pulled off another fine stop.

Two minutes later Lydney took the lead.

Pete Macklin laid the ball into the path of Danny Clarke, whose cross was brilliantly converted by an overhead kick from Price.

Price just failed to connect with a 62nd minute free-kick into the box, then a minute later Liddington shot over the bar.

Price scored his and Lydney's second goal from the penalty-spot after Pete Macklin was brought down.

A minute later Liddington played in Macklin, who accurately found the corner with his weaker left foot.

New College never gave up and hit the bar from a 78th minute free-kick.

Lydney wrapped things up with a fourth goal from Liddington, who headed in a Ricky Elliott free-kick from the edge of the box.
