THERE was a minute’s silence for former Lydbrook Athletic player and chairman Roy Powell before the kick-off of their J O Roberts Cup final against Mitcheldean.

Lydbrook won the final 5-0 to cap a very successful season which saw them win the North Gloucestershire Premier title and the Reserves coming top in the second division.

Mike Donaldson scored a hat-trick and there were goals for Oliver Bonser and Ben Jones in the game at Viney St Swithins.

Following the final, the team and guests enjoyed the club’s awards night at Forest Hills Golf Club in Mile End.

President Jerome Vaughan presented the awards to the Player  of the Year and the Players’ Player of the Year for each of the club’s three  sides.

A spokesman for the club added: “After the pandemic, the club headed to new leadership under Andrew Clements and Justin Tatfield with first team manager Grant Lawrence and second team manager Keith Wilkes.

“The committee hopes to prosper with floodlights already purchased and improved drainage planned for the Stowfield Park ground.

“The future looks brighter.

The club would also like to thank our main sponsors Vemaglass, Brideoak Homes, J E H Laundry and Lydbrook Spraybrush for their continued support.”
