Cinderford Town 0

Sholing 1

CINDERFORD went down to an 85th minute strike from Sholing sub Sam James, after failing to find the net for the fifth time in their last eight games.

The hosts played some fluent football and were again solid at the back. However, the one part of their game stopping them from being a top five side right now is a cutting edge.

Town gave debuts to new signings Josh Emery and Aaron Cornwall. Emery, a central midfielder, who has joined from Stourport Swifts, came off the bench for the final half-hour. Cornwall, a striker from Bridgwater, started the match and worked hard throughout.

Recent additions Kris Miller and Will Loughman also figured in a new-look Town line-up, looking to add goals to their game.

Cinderford survived an early scare when Gibbons failed to connect with a Brewster cross, but after that Sholing struggled to penetrate Town's able defence.

At the other end, Miller dragged a shot wide, while Loughman had an effort hacked off the line. Skipper Dale Evans also went close on a couple of occasions.

Sholing improved after the break and Ben John was called upon to make a couple of decent saves.

With Cornwall linking play nicely the home side continued to probe, but clear cut chances were at a premium. It looked like it was going to be another 0-0 draw until James, playing his first game for Sholing, pounced to turn in the rebound after Marden's shot struck a post.

Cinderford appealed for a last gasp penalty when Andy Lewis went down in the box, but the referee was unmoved. Greg Lewis also had a header blocked on the line as Sholing held on for an important win.
