JACK Knox took 5-19 as Lydney claimed an important win over fellow Gloucestershire Cricket League strugglers Kingsholm.

The five-wicket win at the The Bob Park Cricket Ground means Lydney are 14 points clear of the Division One drop zone.

The home side stamped their authority on the game with seven wickets for 25 runs.

The visitors from Gloucester elected to bat and got off to a steady start with 32 runs off the first eight overs.

But Thomas Morris made the ninth a wicket maiden, bowling Dominic Court who had made 19 off 21 balls.

Callum Miller repeated the wicket maiden feat when Jack O’Connell caught Freddie Drysdale with the fifth delivery of the 14th for 46-2.

Knox claimed his first wicket when Jordan Stone caught Luke Ludlow to break up a 58-run partnership midway through the 30th over.

Stone bowled Ben Cowap in the following over to make it 104-4 and shortly afterwards it was 112-5 when Alex Nelmes caught Luke Bond off the bowling of Knox.

Knox claimed his third wicket when Andrew Edwards was caught by Hugh Gibbs with the second delivery of the 38th over to make it 121-6.

Knox had Thom Wilshaw caught by O’Connell with the penultimate delivery the 40th followed an lbw for124-8.

O’Connell made it 127-9 when Sam Wheeler was caught by wicketkeeper Dafydd Nicholas.

The innings closed when O’Connell bowled Oakleigh Roe midway through the 43rd.

In reply, Lydney lost Alex Nelmes when he was bowled with the final ball of the second over.

Nicholas and Jonathan Kear put on 107 for the second wicket before Jordan Stone sealed the win with two fours off the first two deliveries of the 31st.

In Division 9A, Suresh Kumar Velayudham scored 102 for Lydney Thirds as they beat Cinderford Seconds by 67 runs.
