It was a packed schedule at Forest Hills Golf Club this week, with strong turnouts for competitions, a debut evening event, and success across multiple club matches.

Thursday’s Seniors Individual Yellow Tee Stableford saw almost 50 entrants take to the course. Phil Gwynne won Division 1 with 42 points, while Kev Doyle edged Steve Butt into third on countback with 39. The day’s best score came from John Auton, who topped Division 2 with 43 points, ahead of Gareth Roberts (42) and Brian Evans (39). Colin White claimed Division 3 with 38, ahead of Mike Butcher and David Forbes.

Five players shared the two’s kitty — Doyle, Dave Howard, Martin Shipley, David Stannard and Evans — earning £9.50 each.

In the afternoon, Forest Hills hosted the Gloucestershire Constabulary for their annual match, with Mark Graham leading the side to an impressive 4.5–0.5 win. The highlight came in the opening match, where Graham and Paul Morphey fought back from two down with two to play to secure a half. The fixture concluded with Graham receiving the ‘Truncheon Trophy’ from Ed Dawkins.

Friday evening marked a new venture for the club — a 9-hole Dinner Competition. Nineteen players took part, with Ladies Captain Amanda Jones winning the inaugural event on countback from Matthew McGirr. Nearest-the-Pin went to Mark McGirr.

The Saturday Stableford brought further success, as Jaques Macinnes won Division 1 with 40 points, just ahead of Eddy Annis and John Watkins. Division 2 was won comfortably by Jeremy McCulloch with 45, six clear of Robin Revill. Five twos were recorded, each worth £12.

In NGFL fixtures against Broadway, the B Team secured a 4–2 home win, with Mark Graham and Mark McGirr setting the tone in the opening match. The A Team travelled to the Cotswolds and maintained their unbeaten start with a halved match, helped by convincing wins for Josh Goode and Lee Ayres, Dan Maller and Ryan Burris, and James Prior with Ryan McDonald.

Sunday was one of the busiest days of the year. In the morning May Medal, Dan Reese won Division 1 with a four-under-par 68. Rob Smith claimed Division 2 with the same score, while William Bailey edged out Steve Graham on countback to win Division 3. Graham’s round included a hole-in-one at the 8th. Only he and Matt Yemm shared the two’s kitty.

In the afternoon, Forest Hills edged out Lydney 3–2 in the 2025 Presidents Cup away tie. Wins for Ashley James and Luke Martin, Matt McGirr and Steve Jones, and Graham with Josh Mathews proved decisive.

Elsewhere, the Seniors Scratch team fell 2.5–0.5 away to Henbury, ending their run in this year’s competition.

On Monday, the Seniors returned for a Yellow Tee Bowmaker. The winning team of Mick Hilliam, Bob Gibson, Andrew Johnson and Mike Butcher scored 91 points, just ahead of the second-placed quartet by a single point. Pat Simcoe and Colin Laver claimed the two’s kitty.
