FOREST Hills Seniors captain Kev Doyle was joined by 53 golfers for his rescheduled Captain’s Day, writes Geoff Norris.
In Division One of the Individual Stableford, countback was required to sort out the top six places.
Roger Hall won with 37 points from Mark Barnard.
Ian Lovering and Neil James both came in with 34 and Paul Adams and Terry Davies completed the prize winners with 31
In Division Two Cliff Hill finished five points clear of Terry Hook with 40.
Terry pipped Mick Hilliam, Pete Chisholm and Chas Challis by a single point.
The Best Endeavour prize was ‘ won’ by Mark Hyde with 18.
Kev summed up a successful day thanking Roger Hall and Adrian Vines for collating the results, Alan Bridges for the organising the raffle, Geoff Norris for acting as the Auctioneer, the house and catering staff and everyone who helped raise £420 for Nottingham Hospitals Charity which supports cancer care.
Adrian Vines led the team, in their match at St. Pierre, Chepstow.
In the opener, Adrian and Richard Keeble 6&5, followed by defeats for Alan Bridges and Steve Cole, 2&1, Andrew S Johnson and Richard Medlin, two down, and Paul Adams and Tim Hollingworth, 5&4.
Ray Innes and Simon Ruffley won 4&3 but that Pete Walters and Neil James lost 3&1.
Geoff Norris, playing alone due to a misunderstanding around availability, lost 5&4, and Barry Klein and Glyn Earle lost 4&3 for a final score of St. Pierre 7-1.
In the reintroduced junior championship, Theo Roberts won the gross competition with 93-14-79.
Peter Havitus was second with 98, and Henry Roberts third with 119.
Alan Edwards won Division One of the Saturday Stableford with 38 points, Paul Ennis was second on 36, and Colin Davies third.
Niall Halford won Division Two with 31 on countback from Roy Phillips, with Phil Manns third.
Theo Roberts won the Individual White Tee Medal Captain’s Putter competition with 85-17-68.
Andy Warren was second on count back from David Meek on 69.
The mixed open attracted 28 pairs from across the region and was won by local players Jim and Val Bland on 46.
Jim Bland and Steve Keepax are leading the gross competition with 87 after the first round of the Veterans’ Trophy.
The outstanding round of the day could have been posted by Pete Walters.
A lost ball on the sixth forced him to withdraw but he took only 79 shots to complete the other 17 holes.
The first round of the Nett competition, was won by 87-year-old Mike Nicholas, who posted a nett 69. Jim Bland was second on 71 and Steve Keepax third.
Running alongside the Vets’ Trophy, was an Individual Stableford which won by Martin Shipley. Nigel Thompson was second and Alex Harvey third.
The Seniors’ last home match of the season was against Cotswold Edge.
Captain Kev Doyle and Roger Hall won the opener 5&3.
This was the home team’s only win as Adrian Vines and Neil James lost 3&2 and Geoff Norris and Alan Wearmouth went down 6&4.
Pete Walters, forced to play alone due to illness, lost 7&6 while Kev Burford and Simon Ruffley managed a well-earned half, before Phil Gwynne and Graham Wallace lost two downfor Forest Hill’s 1.5-4.5 Cotswold Edge.
