THE annual Seniors v Ladies at Forest Hills opened with captains Kev Doyle and Jim Fairweather beat Carol Verrier and Jenny Ellway 3&1, writes Geoff Norris.

Olwen Simpson and Sue Williams then beat Roger Hall and Clive Winward 2&1 while Amanda Jones and Debbie Griffiths beat John Skinner and Geoff Norris 4&3.

The men eventually won 5-2 as Bob Gibson and Simon Ruffley beat ‘May’ Bamford and Val Bland 3&2, Pete Walters and Adrian Vines saw off Sarah Mainprise-Tate and Michelle Clegg 4&2, Paul Adams and Bill Peffers won 2&1 against Anne Wall and Joy Skinner and Graham Wallace and Colin White won two up against Corrine Clarke and Christine Everett.

Alex Harvey recorded a four under 40 points in the Seniors’ Individual Yellow Tee Stableford.

Terry Osborne won Division Two on countback from Alan Bridges and Mike Hilliam took Division Three, both with 37.

The meal before the Captains Past and Present competition – organised by 2025 skippers Mark Graham and Amanda Jones – remembered absent friends.

The Ladies winner with 38 was Debbie Hill, who was Lady Captain at Alexander Park in 2015.

Marion Horne of Forest Hills was second on countback with 36.

The men’s winner with 38 was Bob Gibson, captain of Panshanger, Hertfordshire in 1998.

The Challenge Trophy, an Individual Stableford, was won by Alan Edwards with a three under 39.

Theo Roberts continued his good run of form, as he came second on countback, from Trevor Baker with 37.

Forest Hills faced Broadway in the North Gloucestershire Foursomes fixtures.

In the home team opener Mike Parry and Luke Jobson won one up.

Lee Hanson and Josh Goode lost 6&5 and Lee Ayres and Ryan Burris went down 3&1.

Matt McGirr and Ross Jenkins won 3&2, Paul ‘Sty’ Williams and Martyn Walker won 2&1 before the Captain, Connor Mullan and Fraser Freeman-Jones came out of the last match with a 3&1 win for Forest Hills 4-2 Broadway.

The focus is on the last match away at high flying Cotswold Hills.

The B Team travelled to Broadway and in the Captains’ match Steve Jones and Gary Davies lost 5&4.

Ollie Cooper and Finlay Sparkes lost 3&2 but Derek Freeman-Jones and Steve Graham, got the first point for the visitors, as they won one up.

Simon Killen and Mark Parkhurst were beaten 4&2 but he final two matches both saw one up wins for the visitors.

Simon Ruffley and Pat Simcoe came from behind and Daniel Morse and Tony Laws held onto a slender lead for a final score of Broadway 3-3 Forest Hills.

Only three shots separated the top 11 in the

Captains Trophy, an Individual White Tee Medal.

Rylee Wilkins won on countback with 79-10-69 from Brad Kear.

The September Medal was the Seniors’ final White Tee competition of the year.

Tony Burris, who only made his debut with the Seniors the previous Thursday won Division One , with his score of 83-10-73. Graham Wallace recorded the best score of the day with his 88-17-71 winning Division Two.

Playing behind the competition, Kevin Carpenter and Adrian Vines contested the final of the Martin McNeill Memorial Trophy, the Seniors’ Summer Singles Knock Out.

Kevin was the winner by a margin of 7&6.
