FOREST Hills A Team are champions of the first division of the North Gloucestershire Foursomes League.

Since the inception of the league in 1955, Cotswold Hills or Minchinhampton have captured the title no less than 46 times between them, so for the title to come to the Forest for the first time in 61 years, it goes to show the progress that the Mile End club has made, since it’s opening in 1992.

Captain Nick Jacobs knew, that not only did his team have to win their last match at home to Tewkesbury Park, but also that nearest rivals Cotswold Hills had to drop a least a point in their match away at Minchinhampton.

Things couldn’t have worked out any better, as Minchinhampton won 3.5-2.5.

At home, the first match saw Stuart Hardy and Conor Burris lose 4&2, but that was the only setback on the day, as the team went on to win every other match.

Will Smith and Gavin Butcher won 3&2, while Lee Hanson and Craig Tait had an emphatic 6&5 victory.

Simon Killen and Andy Batten then won 3&2, before Hayden Burford and Kurt Hanson won the penultimate rubber 5&4.

The same result was achieved by Paul Williams and Jamie Smith in the last.

The victory sparked a celebration in and out of the clubhouse, that culminated in captain Jacobs leaping into the pond on the 18th hole!

Forest Hills now have to face Henbury Golf Club, to determine the overall Gloucestershire Club Foursomes Champions, as they won the 2016 Bristol Foursomes League.
