UNDERDOGS Martyn Walker and Paul Williams have won one of the biggest amateur golf competitions in the world, the Daily Mail Foursomes.

Around 190,000 golfers from all over Britain started out in the competition, which began with hundreds of internal club tournaments. Regional and national rounds followed.

Five handicapper Paul, a plumber from Littledean, was still on cloud nine days after the event.

"It's not sunk in yet," he said.

"It's the most intimidating experience I've ever had – I played football for Hereford Youth but when you're stood on the tee being announced, with 100 people right behind you, it's something else.

"I was happy just to get to the last 16. It's unexplainable really. It's a big thing for me."
