'WELL bowled son' was a much used cry at Brightlands on Saturday when Rob Brett took to the field for Lydney' s third XI on Saturday – in the same team as all of his five sons!

They were playing against Newnham's second XI in a KW Bell Division Two league match.

Andrew Davis, captain of Lydney's thirds, said: "We were at selection this week and while we were not quite scraping the bottom of the barrel, we were getting there!

"Rob doesn't play much but he's always said he's there if we need him. "All the boys play for our junior sides and they're a great family. Rob helps out with the junior cricket and his wife Julie does the cleaning."

Rob and Julie certainly have their hands full with five boys – including two sets of twins – aged 13 to 15.

They did their parents and the cricket club proud on Saturday, with Shaun scoring 35 runs and taking a wicket, and Charlie taking 4-26 with the ball and two catches.
