CINDERFORD captain Mike Wilcox has called on his teammates to rally together with consistency to lift the Dockham Road side out of their early-season rut.

The Foresters have won just one game in eight so far this term – a 33-27 victory at Wharfedale – and Wilcox says there are mixed feelings in the Cinderford camp a quarter way through the season.

“Obviously there’s disappointment in terms of results, having won just one game in eight, which isn’t where we want to be or expected to be.

“It’s a mixed feeling because in lots of games we feel we deserved more than we got out of them. It’s a feeling of frustration too.

“We have come out of a couple of games that got away from us. When we reflect back it’s the results that matter though and we know they have got to improve.

“When we’ve had good play we look dangerous but it’s only in 20 or 30 minute patches. We need to be more consistent over the full 80 minutes and if we do that the results will come.

“Hopefully from now to Christmas we can improve. We’ve come out of games at times and got nothing at all and it’s quite disheartening.

“The boys are working extremely hard at training in the week – we couldn’t be working harder – and all of the boys realise we want to improve and out it right.”

Wilcox believes Cinderford have been ‘leaking points’ in the form of soft tries or conceding penalties that have been knocked over with ease, and says the National League One side need to be ‘more clinical’ going forward.

“We are creating a lot but we’ve got to be scoring three or four tries rather than the one or two,” he added.

“We have to make the most of our opportunities – the fact is that we’re creating a lot but not putting them away.

“When other teams are in our 22 we have to give away less penalties and we’ve got to be a bit more ruthless.

“We are playing well – its just trying to get there over the 80 minutes.”
