CINDERFORD wonderkid Luke Thomas made a perfect start to life at Championship club Barnsley as he scored the only goal on his debut against promotion favourites Fulham.
Thomas, who signed for the Tykes in the summer from Derby County, scored what proved to be the winner in a 1-0 home victory for Barnsley after just 13 minutes, as he placed a left-footed effort into the bottom right corner from just outside the six-yard box.
And naturally the Cheltenham Town academy product was delighted to get off the mark for his new club so soon and start the new campaign with a win.
“All the lads are buzzing in there,” he told Barnsley’s official channels after the match.
“Of course I was looking to pass it to Cauley [Woodrow] as it’s his former club so I thought I’d try and help him get on the the scoresheet.
“I tried to square it but I saw the Fulham player close him off so I thought if I pass this it’s going to get cut off.
“So I had a quick change of mind and luckily it’s gone in the back of the net.”
