STAUNTON and Corse Reserves have won the North Gloucestershire League’s George Sandoe Cup for the second time in three years.
Their 5-1 win over Bream Reserves at Broadwell adds to their 2024 success and is their fourth Sandoe title.
For Bream it was another runners-up prize after second places in the West Dean Charities Cup and Division Two of the league.
The win sets up a potential Division One and cup double for Staunton.
It was newly-promoted Bream who were on the attack with the first of several shots on goal by Jordan Griffiths.
Both sides probed with decent attempts and Staunton’s first goal came after 25 minutes, Matt Crabb’s low shot beating James Clarke in the Bream goal.
Staunton doubled the advantage some five minutes before the end of the half with the goal of the game, as Greg Chamberlayne leapt off the ground to power home his shot.
Bream continued to press but went further behind after keeper Clarke was forced to leave the field.
Ten minutes into the half he made a good save, but sustained an injury to a finger in blocking a powerful shot.
Minutes later his replacement did well to block but it fell for Simon Cooke to score.
Bream did pull one back shortly after when Nath Meredith neatly lobbed Tom Prosser in the Staunton goal.
But Staunton restored the three-goal advantage within minutes when Dan Gittings beat the keeper in a one-on-one.
And the final goal came a few minutes from time when James Sharpe got up high to head home.
The cups and medals were presented by North Gloucestershire League president Clive Wilkes.
Afterwards, league secretary Roger Sansom announced that £332 had been taken on the gate at Broadwell’s Hawthorns ground.
That brings the total raised by the two Hospital Cups finals so far to £1,135 which will go to the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity.
He also thanked referee Terry Onions, linesmen Colin Jones and Geoff Prosser, fourth official Craig Watts and hosts Broadwell.
Staunton and Corse manager Paul Thompson said his side deserved the win.
He said: “I think we tried to overplay and we gave them a couple of chances but overall I think we dominated the game.
“We've had three seasons now where we've had a couple of promotions, but we finished runners up so we haven't had anything tangible to show.
“It's nice to get something that we can take back to the club.”
